Unwanted Pregnancies = Abused ChildrenWho can resist the invitation to abort an unwanted pregnancy primarily for the good of the child and not just for the "health" of the mother? Let's examine this oft-expressed contention: that terminating unwanted pregnancies is beneficial because they would later lead to child abuse. And everyone, of course, is against the mistreatment of children. The seminal study on this topic was conducted at the University of Southern California. Professor Edward Lenoski studied 674 consecutive abused children who were brought to the inpatient and outpatient departments of that medical center. He was the first to go to the parents and study to what extent they wanted and planned the pregnancy. To his surprise, he found that 91% were planned and intentional, compared to 63% in control groups nationwide. Additionally, mothers started wearing pregnancy clothes, on average, at 114 days compared to 171 days in the control group, and fathers gave their names to the boys 24 percent of the time compared to 4 percent in the control groups.
