In Frankenstein, the world might argue that the death of Victor Frankenstein's friends is due to his desire to have the powers of God. William, Henry, and Elizabeth all fall destined for wrath of the monster. Ironically, Victor seems to care more about Henry's death than Elizabeth's death. As described in this excerpt, "Her lover was torn from her so barbarously" (). Victor Frankenstein is more worried about the mortal fear of his own death than that of his fiancée. With respect to Henry's death, “I got short of breath and threw myself on the body…” (). This is clear proof that Victor cared about Henry more than his fiancé. When Victor creates his creation, his destiny is already mapped out for him and his loved ones. If he had never dabbled in alchemy or science, if he had taken responsibility for his creation, if he had respected the basic social norms of the world, then the dead would have stayed dead and people would not have died.
