Introduction:The task was to analyze coverage of a corporate event from two independent sources. The corporate event was analyzed by a group of four people and documented through a presentation and a written report. It was decided that a major corporate event at the time was the announcement of Tesco's first half profits at. The report and presentation has been divided into 4 key sections. Each section focused on a different aspect of the analysis. The information has been grouped under four main headings:1. Arguments developed2. Use of evidence3. Effectiveness of arguments4. Validity of arguments presented Results: Arguments developed The information gathered in The Independent newspaper was very informative and used inserted graphs and charts to visualize the ideas contained in the main textual body of the article. It showed a large amount of quotes from Tesco CEO Sir Terry Leahy, using figures and facts in the commentary to highlight any ideas he hadn't fully explained. It only provided quotes from the CEO and does not show other views from other relevant bodies. The main argument presented by the Independent concerns the idea that “its bid to become a global retail giant has helped it amass provisional pre-tax profits of £1.1 billion”. This had more than one meaning. It could be indicative that the only reason first-half profits were so high is because the money came from global markets or that globalization is the key to a successful business. Information captured by the Times newspaper on October 4 2006 was full of useful facts as it was presented to the reader with a selection of charts and graphs. This ensured that there was a variety of reading material. He discussed the plans in detail and suggested the steps taken to realize further expansion plans in the global markets of US and Asia. Unlike the article published in The Independent, the Times showed little to no information from reputable bodies/people and appeared to use past comments from Tesco's CEO to address the information the writer wished to present. This information is the basis of the thesis presented: “By February Tesco, which was launched abroad ten years ago, will have 60% of its stores abroad”. The articles have been chosen very carefully to highlight the changes that can be made by different parties to a generic press release.
